Have you ever heard the term, maybe from your dad, “My house; My rules”?
When I first heard this, I was a teenager living with my Grandparents. I wanted to be independent. I was trying to find my own way; trying to be my own man. But Grandpa made sure that I understood that if I was living with him, I would be living by his rules. Now, I've been a Christian for most of my life, and I've come to understand that when I approach the Kingdom of God I must abide by the rules of God’s house.
To walk in the promises of God, the protection, provision and power of God there are certain rules we must follow. In the Old Testament, the children of Israel were given the 10 Commandments and it seemed for them to be a hard thing – 10 commandments turned into hundreds of laws. Thank God for a new and better covenant that Jesus gave to us when he went to the cross!
Jesus says in John 13:34-35, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
See, it's not a hard thing to obey the rules of the house. First, we need to wake up daily with our minds on love! Choose to love people and choose to respond in love in every situation. Second, fill your life with people and activities that reflect your love and honor for God. Let your life show that He has your heart.
One of the biggest lessons I have learned in my 42 years of living: My way = my results. Selfish living will take you down a dead-end road. But when you choose God’s way, and yield to the Word of God, you will receive results such as peace, prosperity, protection, and joy.
So today, choose God's way! Tell your mind, your will, and your emotions to line up with God's way of doing things. Remember - His house His rules.
